Domestic Violence Practitioner Role

The Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner role is crucial for our team's efforts to support individuals and families affected by domestic violence. This role involves working across multiple programs and services, using a trauma-informed approach to empower clients to thrive in a future free from violence and abuse.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting initial risk assessments and safety planning for clients, including home visits to assess their needs.
  • Providing domestic and family violence counselling, psychoeducation, and group work to clients, utilising a trauma-informed framework.
  • Supporting clients attending court in relation to domestic and family violence matters, including preparing and presenting evidence.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including police, child protection services, and housing providers, to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
  • Developing and implementing individualised case plans that address client goals and priorities.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science or Behavioural Science, with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Minimum two years' experience in managing intake processes, conducting risk assessments, and providing safety planning and support to clients experiencing domestic and family violence.
  • Knowledge and skills in trauma-informed practice, crisis management, and effective communication and interpersonal relationships.
  • A strong understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks related to domestic and family violence, including the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act.
  • Current Queensland Working with Children Check and Police Certificate, and proof of Australian Work Rights.
