Job Description
This is a great opportunity to develop skills and experience as a Mechanical Engineer. In this role, you will work on designing and engineering commercial and naval ships.

The Above Water Systems team at Thales designs and engineers commercial and naval ships – as well as providing in-service support capabilities.


Responsibilities
  • Perform design tasks and analyses appropriate to individual experience and specialised knowledge in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Work under broad professional guidance, independently or as a team member to ensure that design products comply with the technical requirements of the task and are performed within the allocated cost and schedule.
  • Work towards the attainment of Designer Signatory status for assigned tasks.
  • Work towards Chartered status of IEAust.
  • Plan operations and processes required to complete allocated design tasks, including estimation of requirements of staffing, material costs and quantities.
  • Understand technical, commercial and legal implications of actions and respond accordingly.
  • Ensure knowledge of quality concepts, standards, systems and programs and their importance to the organisations success.

Requirements
Applicants must have appropriate tertiary qualifications admitting to membership of a professional institution. Relevant drafting, technical and task management experience is highly desirable. Experience in the use or management of CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) is essential and 3D Modelling software packages highly desirable. Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS Project highly desirable.
