Job Description

This role offers the opportunity for high-impact technical leadership with formal people management responsibilities. You'll manage a multi-region team of three engineers while taking ownership of the systems behind our fast-growing POS and Invoice products.

You'll drive architectural solutions collaboratively with your team and engineering leadership to build and scale our products. As a player-coach, this role requires you to stay deeply technical while leading from the front.

You'll own operational excellence for your team's systems, including monitoring, incident response, and reliability improvements. You'll also champion modern development practices, including the active use of LLMs within your team and the adoption of technical practices.

  • Technical Leadership & System Ownership: Drive architectural solutions collaboratively with your team and engineering leadership to build and scale our products.
  • Write production code regularly as a core contributor while maintaining oversight of your team's technical deliverables.
  • Own operational excellence for your team's systems, including monitoring, incident response, and reliability improvements.
  • Champion modern development practices, including the active use of LLMs within your team and the adoption of technical practices.
  • Lead and partner closely with product managers as joint owners of your product success, contributing technical and delivery insight to shape what gets built.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with experience in backend system design and a track record of driving pace and delivery. You should be comfortable writing production code and have a strong self-learning drive.

You'll need to navigate between detail and broader context, making well-reasoned decisions that benefit the company. You should also be able to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Background

We use a serverless, event-driven system architecture built on AWS. Our tech stack includes AWS Lambda, Event Bridge, API Gateway, SQS, Relational and NoSQL datastores, and application monitoring tools like CloudTrail and Datadog.

We have a rigorous approach to continuous integration and system correctness, using infrastructure as code (CDK, Terraform) and high coverage of unit, integration, and system tests built with Github Actions.
