This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to enhance their capabilities within our Generation & New Energy team, working to solve complex challenges and problems, making every day different. You will collaborate with talented professionals and work with clients to explore the viability and feasibility of emerging energy generation alternatives.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise in power generation, employing your significant experience in thermal and renewable generation, including your demonstrated experience delivering projects with gas turbines (OCGT and CCGT), coal-fired power stations, and hydro power stations.
- Design and Development: Undertake and lead the design of power station control and instrumentation systems, including PLC and DCS based systems, functional safety systems (AS 61511), and EEHA designs.
- Communication Systems: Conduct and lead the design of control and protection system communication systems, including DCS data highways, control system networks (Ethernet and serial based) and IEC 61850 protection networks, employing common industrial protocols (e.g. Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP, OPC).
- Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate in the design of power station secondary systems in coordination with electrical engineers, including electrical protection systems, and excitation systems.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Accountable for electrical engineering analysis and undertakings, as well as upholding and promoting compliance with Australian Standards and relevant regulatory acts of legislation and best practice.
- Leadership and Development: Coach others in the identification and management of ethical issues associated with the area of work or practice area, and proactively maintain effective networks and relevant industry relationships to gain cooperation in meeting business and client outcomes.
- Client Focus: Seek information to understand client needs and effectively anticipate and meet client needs, and encourage client focus on colleagues, including coordination with other disciplines.
- Quality and Risk Management: Review and verify engineering drawings and reports, and provide expert technical input to a diverse range of projects in line with WSP quality system and client requirements.
- Project Management: Establish project scope, time, and cost management systems, and coach others in managing competing demands.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leads on multiple projects of varying complexity and size, and establish project quality and risk management systems.
- Communication and Integration: Establish project communications and integration systems, and mentor junior engineers in technical, project delivery, and client relationships.
- Review and Verification: Provide technical review of work performed by the team, and assist team managers and executives in the selection and recruitment of employees.
- SHEQ Obligations: Comply with all role-specific SHEQ obligations.
We are looking for a highly experienced and skilled professional with the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: Bachelors Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent.
- Professional Qualifications: Chartered status CPENG and registered (RPEQ, RPEV).
- Experience: Significant experience in thermal and renewable generation.
- Project Delivery: Demonstrated delivery of several complex power generation projects.
- Industry Experience: Extensive relevant experience with some time spent within a consultancy.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated competence in providing key technical expertise across a broad range of high-profile projects.
- Risk Management: Competent in managing risk on substantial projects.
- Safety in Design: High-level skills in applying safety in design practices and processes.
- Client Outcomes: Demonstrated multiple instances of delivering best client outcomes/options which have saved the client costs/time.
- Industry Recognition: Established a recognised profile within industry associations, e.g. Active involvement in shaping the industry.
- Project Management: Competent in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
- Reporting: Prepares and reviews high-level and complex technical reports.
- Business Development: Experience in business development.
- QA and OH&S: Extensive experience in applying QA and OH&S systems.
- Team Management: Experience in supervising graduates and managing engineers and senior engineers.
- Client Relationships: Strong experience in client relationships.
- Technical Capability: Built technical capability of others (training & mentoring) and transferred technical expertise within the organisation.
