We seek a seasoned Strategic Health Advocate to spearhead our policy and advocacy initiatives. This role will lead a dynamic team driving impactful work that supports the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Strategic Health Advocate will oversee strategic policy projects, fostering collaboration across teams and ensuring alignment with our 2024–2027 Strategic Plan. This role plays a key part in shaping policy contexts, translating research into practice, and strengthening our influence through innovative and impactful work.You will be a strong leader with a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health contexts and a commitment to cultural safety. Your experience in policy development, research, or project management will be matched by your ability to lead high-performing teams and build meaningful relationships across sectors. You'll bring strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and a passion for driving positive change through evidence-based advocacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including a strong commitment to cultural safety and the ability to communicate effectively with these communities.
- Experience in two or more of the following areas: policy development, research and evaluation, or project management, with a clear understanding of jurisdictional policy cycles, production impact, and evaluation.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with diverse personnel, including experience supervising staff and fostering a culturally safe and high-performing team environment.
- Strong conceptual, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce high-quality reports, briefs, and advocacy materials.
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and undertake interstate travel and work outside standard hours as required.
