Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year (depending on location and experience)
Job Description
The Animation Technical Supervisor plays a crucial role in supporting our departments by developing, documenting, and maintaining artist tools and workflows required to create high-quality animation efficiently. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with Department Supervisors, Heads of Department, and other technical supervisors to ensure that our tools and workflows are used consistently throughout the company.
Main Responsibilities
- Review technical requirements of current and future shows to determine new tool/workflow developments or improvements needed to deliver high-quality animation on time.
- Work closely with Department Supervisors and Heads of Department to ensure tasks, methodology, and priorities align with the department's roadmap and future projects.
- Collaborate globally with Animation Heads of Department and Technical Supervisors to maintain consistent use of tools and workflows across the company.
- Communicate with colleagues in other departments to understand their needs and communicate requirements to upstream departments.
- Deliver tools and workflows on schedule by efficiently managing tasks, development teams, and cross-department communication.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Significant production experience of Maya & Linux within the Film Industry (+5 years).
- Good production experience of Jira & Shotgun (+3 years).
- Experience managing/mentoring small teams of animators or pipe TDs (+2 years).
- Excellent understanding of how animation department workflows fit into the wider production pipeline.
- Ability to problem-solve and predict potential problems.
- First-hand experience in an artist role that provides in-depth understanding of day-to-day tasks, pressures, and priorities of artists.
- Sufficient knowledge of developing tools that fit within larger systems.
