Role Overview
In the capacity of Principal Accountant, your responsibilities will be both unique and impactful. You will deliver precise and timely financial insights and guidance across various domains, empowering Business Unit and Programme Managers to maintain effective financial oversight, optimize value for money, enhance cash flow, and drive profitability. Additionally, your role will involve identifying potential risks and conducting comprehensive trend analyses.

Your daily activities will include engaging in frequent contract pricing initiatives to bolster strategic business expansion, alongside the preparation and examination of financial statements in line with the established monthly schedule. You will also lead financial performance evaluations and provide mentorship to team members:

  • Ensure the accuracy of data supporting financial statements, maintaining comprehensive audit trails for both internal and external audits.
  • Oversee and compile monthly performance reports for management reviews in collaboration with relevant operational teams, with quarterly preparations for Senior Management review.
  • Facilitate financial performance assessments with operational stakeholders and Senior Management.
  • Enhance the profitability of the program while ensuring timely and precise cash recovery in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate and consolidate Cost Certificates/statements for the MoD, adhering to contract stipulations.

This position is full-time, comprising 35 hours per week, and offers hybrid working arrangements with three days in the office and two days working remotely.

Essential Qualifications for the Principal Accountant

  • Proficient in Excel with a strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional quality standards and meticulousness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Solid technical expertise.
  • Experience with IFS and/or Business Analytics is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in managing staff is preferred but not essential.

Required Credentials for the Principal Accountant

  • A recognized accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, ACMA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS) or equivalent/similar is mandatory.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national capable of obtaining and maintaining Security Check (SC) security clearance for this position.
