Principal Planner Role

The role of Principal Planner is a critical position within our organization, responsible for providing strategic planning and resource management advice to support business goals. As a key member of the team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams, work independently on projects, and develop professionally and personally.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrating expertise in urban planning research, data analysis, and report writing, as well as knowledge of NSW urban planning and environmental legislation.
  • Acting as a project manager, with planning, programming, and coordination of projects to ensure outputs meet or exceed agreed goals.
  • Developing project plans and strategies for the completion of major projects, including identification of business resource requirements.
  • Managing or assisting with the preparation of strategies, reports, environmental impact assessments, and other planning documentation and submissions on behalf of clients.
  • Undertaking technical and quality reviews of documentation prepared by the planning team to ensure it meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Leading and assisting with the preparation of tender documentation.
  • Fostering client relationships and identifying business opportunities.
  • Growing, developing, and mentoring junior staff.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or Architecture/Urban Design, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Proficiency in urban planning research, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Extensive experience in statutory or strategic planning, preferably within NSW.
  • Self-motivation and self-direction.
  • An interest in working on a broad variety of projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with the team, managers, and clients.
  • A commitment to self-improvement and continuing professional development.
  • Drive and passion to solve problems and produce innovative solutions.
