Job Summary:

We are seeking a Media and Communication Officer to support our senior executive in delivering strategic communication priorities. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our dynamic team and contribute to the success of Defence's Strategic Communication Branch.

The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. They will also possess good judgement and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing communication strategies, executing public affairs plans, and anticipating media enquiries. You will also maintain a detailed understanding of Defence's activities and contribute to planning and forecasting events and communication opportunities.

This is a unique opportunity to work on diverse issues across the breadth of Defence, including Defence People, Capability, International Policy, Science and Technology, and directly to the Australian Defence Force.

  • Executing public affairs plans and coordinating with senior stakeholders
  • Anticipating and responding to media enquiries
  • Maintaining a detailed understanding of Defence's activities

About Our Team:

The Strategic Communication Branch is part of the Ministerial and Executive Coordination and Communication Division and is responsible for day-to-day media and communication operations across Defence.

We are a large branch with a range of services, including media and public affairs support to Ministers, Senior Defence Leaders, and Defence Groups and Services.
