Academic Leadership Position Overview

The Academic Lead for Field Education is responsible for ensuring the quality of field education placements for undergraduate and postgraduate social work programs. This role aligns with national standards for social work education.

This position offers flexibility in terms of location, with the successful applicant able to be based at one of our campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement high-quality field education units that meet student needs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies to support student placements.
  • Oversee student performance and grades on placement, as well as identifying and addressing issues that arise.
  • Review student feedback and agency performance to ensure the best possible placement experience.
  • Support and equip staff to effectively manage student placement issues.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  • A minimum of five years of post-qualifying practice experience in core areas of social work practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop teaching materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships.
  • A current satisfactory Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or ability to obtain).

Desirable:

  • A doctoral qualification in Social Work or significant progress toward completion.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a growing scholarship/research track record in an aligned area.
  • Experience supporting social work and/or community services placements.
  • Experience teaching in social work or cognate disciplines in a tertiary setting.
