Fire Detection Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and vigilant Fire Detection Specialist to join our team at the Country Fire Authority. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the safety of our community.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for detecting unplanned fires early, particularly during high-risk periods. You will work independently and in collaboration with other fire towers to identify potential threats and report them promptly.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining a watchful eye for fires and reporting any suspected incidents
- Assisting with the monitoring of prescribed burns
- Tracking the movement of fires and predicting their expansion
- Providing detailed information on local areas, including map references
- Communicating effectively via radio
- Conducting basic weather monitoring
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will require:
- Exceptional judgment and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated expertise in map reading and navigation, including triangulation and contour interpretation
- Excellent communication skills, with experience in radio operation and telecommunications
- A thorough understanding of the CFA Act and Regulations
- Knowledge of fire behavior and suppression techniques
- The ability to work long hours alone and in isolated environments
- Experience in operating under pressure and resolving problems

Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per annum (dependent on location and experience)
