Conservation Officer - Leading Cultural Heritage Preservation

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Conservation Officer to play a vital role in the preservation of our nation's cultural heritage at one of Australia's leading cultural institutions.

About the Role:
  • This is an opportunity to work on high-priority projects that impact the long-term preservation of collections, where you will have the chance to make a real difference.
  • You will be working in a dynamic and collaborative environment with a dedicated team of professionals who share your passion for conservation.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Managing and implementing the annual prioritised treatment program, including estimating treatment timeframes, surveying collections and undertaking conservation treatments.
  2. Preparing and installing objects for display and/or loan as part of the Library's exhibitions and loans program.
  3. Providing expert advice and inspections on new acquisitions, including physical collections, and managing collection housing supplies.
  4. Developing and implementing the strategic preventive conservation program, including environmental monitoring, pest checking and incident response.
  5. Liaising with Library staff on a broad range of preservation issues, including providing training on collection handling and advice on storage and housing requirements.
Requirements:
  • Degree in a relevant field such as conservatorship or museum studies.
  • Proven experience in conservation practices, including treatment and preservation of cultural materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
