Conservation Officer Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Conservation Officer to join our team in the Collection Care Section of the Collection Branch.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for conserving the Library's collection for access now and future generations across the world. This will involve working across a diverse range of preservation activities and projects on key voices in Australian history.

You will have the opportunity to develop your technical skills as you contribute to a dynamic and collaborative team, helping to support organisational reform and shape the Library's future.

This is an ongoing role that requires strong hand skills, evidence of manual dexterity, practical approaches and ability to work across a range of collection material types.

  • Prioritised treatment programs involving estimating treatment timeframes, surveying collections and undertaking conservation treatments.
  • Exhibitions and loans program including preparation and installation of objects for display and/or loan.
  • New acquisition program for physical collections; providing advice, inspections and treatments.
  • Strategic preventive conservation program including environmental monitoring, pest checking and incident preparation and response.
  • Digitisation projects surveying and preparing collections identified for digitisation.

This role involves complex conservation treatments on individual items and engaging with broader collection-wide preservation approaches.

A key aspect of this role is being flexible and adaptable, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues to a broad audience.
