About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our team in Cessnock. As a Disability Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing support to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to live independently and participate fully in their communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assistance with Independence: Assist individuals with daily activities, such as meal preparation, personal care, and mobility assistance.
  • Emotional Support: Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals, promoting a sense of trust and security.
  • Household Tasks: Assist with light household chores to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment.
  • Transportation: Assist individuals with transportation to medical appointments, social outings, and other activities.
  • Personal Care: Assist individuals with personal hygiene tasks, such as bathing, dressing, and toileting.
  • Medication Management: Assist individuals with medication management, including reminders and administration under supervision.
  • Social Support: Assist individuals with social interactions and participation in community activities.
  • Community Engagement Support: Assist individuals to engage in community, social, and recreational activities.
  • Financial Support: Assist individuals with financial management, including shopping and banking.
  • Employment Support: Assist individuals with employment preparation and support.
  • Participant Plans: Assist with the implementation of participant plans and service offerings.
  • Communication and Support: Engage with and support individuals' families, carers, and guardians.
  • Supported Decision-Making: Support individuals with disability to make decisions.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a relevant industry or equivalent level of expertise and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NDIS Code of Conduct and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Choice and Control and Person-centred approaches.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Behavioural Support principles and guidelines.
  • Intermediate IT skills in word processing and email programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Intermediate problem-solving, consultation, and negotiation skills.
  • Intermediate written and comprehension skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to work within a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changes or specific participant requirements.
Workplace Health and Safety
  • Utilise safe manual handling and specialised equipment where required.
  • Utilise and wear PPE as required, by PPE guidelines and directions.
  • Report any injuries, incidents, hazards, or near misses as soon as practicable.
  • Abide by company and legislative workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work methods to ensure your own, participant, and other team's safety.
