
Documentation Lead

The role of a Technical Author is multifaceted, encompassing the development and maintenance of software documentation. This individual will lead the documentation efforts of an engineering team, focusing on products or families of products.
- Develop and improve software documentation to ensure clarity and accuracy.
- Collaborate with engineering team members to create effective documentation contributions.
- Influence product development as an expert user, providing valuable insights on functionality and design.
- Engage with user communities to guarantee that documentation meets their needs.
- Encourage community engagement in and contribution to documentation.
- Standardize the structure, presentation, style, and language of content across products.
- Contribute to advancing the state of documentation at Canonical through collaboration with peers.
- Passionate about functional written communication.
- Technical writer with a programmer's mindset or programmer with a track record of producing excellent documentation.
- Experience in community engagement, open-source software, documentation, research, or other disciplines.
- Sympathetic to the challenges and needs of open-source software and its communities.
- Demonstrable documentation skills, insight, and enthusiasm.
- Proficiency in software development contexts, including Linux, command-line interfaces, application deployment, system operations, infrastructure management, Git, and documentation markup languages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
