Job Overview

The role of Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the employee lifecycle, from hire and onboarding stage through to cessation of employment. A key emphasis is on creating and maintaining a seamless employee experience.

  • Provide effective leadership and direction to the team to drive efficient, effective and customer-focused delivery of services to employees.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership teams to implement business objectives, service level agreements and tiered service delivery models.
  • Oversee and contribute to the delivery of services related to the employee lifecycle, including but not limited to onboarding and induction; changes in working arrangements; significant employment events; separation, exit and offboarding.
  • Oversee and contribute to the provision of information and advice to managers to support them in managing their teams and executing people management processes, including policy and procedural guidance, and interpretation of awards and agreements.
  • Lead the implementation of remuneration strategy through effective application of awards, enterprise agreement and remuneration review outcomes.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract role with an annual salary range dependent on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Provide effective leadership and direction to the team.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with leadership teams.
  • Employee Lifecycle: Oversee and contribute to the delivery of services related to the employee lifecycle.
  • Information and Advice: Oversee and contribute to the provision of information and advice to managers.
  • Remuneration Strategy: Lead the implementation of remuneration strategy.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification, or vocational qualification and equivalent experience, in payroll, human resources, business administration or a related discipline.
  • Breadth and depth of experience in a payroll manager role in a medium to large business with diverse industrial relations frameworks.
  • Proven experience in interpreting and applying employment / industrial frameworks and providing procedural guidance and practical advice.
  • Strong data literacy, analysis and report development skills.
  • Deep understanding of the employee lifecycle.
  • Strong customer-centric approach, with a thirst for feedback and a bias for action.
  • Design thinking approach, focused on constantly improving customer experience and reducing friction points in processes.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, verbal and written communication skills, and customer and stakeholder relationship management skills.
