About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Generalist to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. As a key member of our VFX department, you will be responsible for creating photo-real environments and landscapes that integrate seamlessly with plate elements.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of multiple workflows and be able to turn around high-quality work quickly. They will be comfortable blocking in shots to establish a look as well as focusing on small details required to take a shot to final pixels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a range of high-quality digital environments within a tight timeline and with minimal supervision.
  • Establish shaders and lighting setups that look convincing and render efficiently.
  • Source suitable reference materials for required assets.
  • Participate in rounds and attend dailies for your show and engage in creative conversations with show leads and artists from other departments.
  • Interpret and respond to client and supervisor feedback with minimal direction from your Lead.
  • Mentor more junior Artists and assist them with their shots.
  • Participate and engage with the Generalist team as a whole and contribute to our inclusive, supportive and collaborative culture.
  • Help to develop and test tools and techniques before they are rolled out to shot artists.
  • Be prepared to lead a sequence of shots and create the look that the rest of the team follows.

Requirements

  • Degree and 7 years relevant professional experience.
  • Proven ability in multiple CG techniques, including modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, look development, matte painting or compositing.
  • Excellent communication and team-oriented thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly pick up new software.
  • Fluent in some or all of these software packages: Nuke, 3dsMax, Maya, Houdini Solaris and Renderman and/or Vray renderer. Comparable software experience considered.
  • Good working knowledge of specialist tools and plugins like Photoshop, Speedtree, zBrush, Substance Painter, Gaea etc.
