Job Overview

This role is a key part of our VFX team, working on high-end feature films. As a Visual Effects Artist - Simulation Specialist, you will be responsible for gathering and simulating 3D assets using off-the-shelf software such as Houdini and custom pipeline tools.

You will work closely with our Build, Layout, and Animation departments to create high-quality particle, pyro, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur, and hair simulations for top VFX Feature Films.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality particle, pyro, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur, and hair simulations for VFX Feature Films.
  • Work closely with other departments to gather and simulate 3D assets.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of industry-standard software and tools, including Houdini and Nuke.
  • Collaborate with other artists to ensure seamless integration of simulations into final shots.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in VFX simulation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of high-end feature film VFX experience.
  • Proven experience in producing photo-real effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, and explosions.
  • An eye for detail, good sense of timing, and thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in computer graphics.
  • Experience in live-action FX work.
  • Extensive knowledge of Houdini.
  • Familiarity with pipeline issues and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with at least one node-based compositing application (Nuke preferred), and a solid understanding of the compositing process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in other areas of visual effects (TV, Games) will also be taken into account.
  • A good generalist TD background.
  • Maya, Python, HScript, or Mel knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix-based operating systems.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000-$120,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications.
