About this Entry-Level Animal Care Role

This is an entry-level position that requires no previous experience or qualifications, as we provide full training. As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of the mice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing a high level of care to ensure animals are maintained in a healthy state including: food, water, and a clean cage;
  • Monitoring animal health;
  • Checking for pregnancy and litters born;
  • Setting up breeding pairs (under the guidance of senior staff);
  • Maintaining accurate records using our bespoke online system.

Requirements:

  • A commitment to animal welfare and care;
  • Strong observational skills;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Reliability, patience, and trustworthiness;
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently and safely with quality as one of the key focus points;
  • Maintenance of work areas in a clean and orderly manner, complying with policies and undertaking improvements where required;
  • Following safety rules, WHS & wellbeing directives, procedures, standards and regulations and actively working towards improvement of safe working practices;
  • Working in compliance with several quality assurance programs, animal ethics and quarantine protocols.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • A basic understanding of husbandry, housing, and breeding requirements of laboratory animals;
  • Basic manipulation skills (such as injection techniques or euthanasia).
