Job Description">

The role of the Youth Care Specialist involves providing vital support to Children and Young People living in Residential Out-of-Home Care at a therapeutic, rural property. The main responsibilities include engaging with and supporting Children and Young People who exhibit challenging behaviors, helping them achieve their social, educational, cultural, and emotional goals.

Daily tasks may include:

  • Providing hands-on support in teaching life skills to our Young People, such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, completing homework, personal care, booking and attending appointments, participating in sports, and engaging in schooling
  • Developing support documentation, including Positive Behaviour Support Plans and progress reports
  • Assessing and supporting the developmental progress of our Young People
  • Liaising with and reporting to stakeholders to share information, contribute to planning, and ensure desired outcomes are achieved
  • Creating activity plans and facilitating community engagement for the Young Person
  • Safely supporting behaviours using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques

Our Mission is to equip Children and Young People with new coping strategies and pro-social behaviors to help them transition to a forever home.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with children and young people who have complex needs.

Other essential skills and qualifications include:

  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma or adversity
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized support plans
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with other professionals and stakeholders
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training and professional development
