- Expertise in ocean salinity (and its relation to the Earth's water cycle), coupled climate modelling and data analysis.
- This full-time 4.5-year fixed-term role is based in Hobart, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact research program.
As part of the prestigious ARC Laureate Fellowship project Precision Climate Tracking, this position focuses on investigating changes in ocean salinity and the Earth's water cycle - key to understanding the planet's hydrological response to climate change.
The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team working towards precise, policy-relevant insights into the evolving climate system. This role offers the opportunity to shape national and global understanding of climate mitigation efforts and support decision-makers with robust scientific evidence.
Key Requirements- A PhD in physical oceanography or a highly related discipline (e.g. geophysics, ocean biogeochemistry).
- A good record of international recognition and contribution to the field of physical oceanography.
- Experience in postgraduate research supervision.
- A track record of building effective links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession and wider community.
- In-depth skills in analysing climate model datasets and observations.
- Knowledge of machine learning and spatial Artificial Intelligence methods is desirable.
