Job Title: Head Sommelier

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Head Sommelier to join our exceptional team at The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Hobart. As a key member of our Food and Beverage & Culinary team, you will be responsible for serving wine and champagne, offering expertise on origin, vintage, and styles, managing the wine list and MICROS system, and suggesting wine pairings for menu items.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend wine tastings to expand your knowledge and stay up-to-date with industry trends
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors to source high-quality wines and products
  • Create engaging wine lists and promotions to drive sales and customer satisfaction
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized wine cellar, adhering to all health and safety standards
  • Train staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and beverage preparation techniques
  • Ensure compliance with alcohol service laws and regulations
  • Monitor and control inventory levels to minimize waste and optimize stock

You Will Thrive in This Role If:

  • You have experience working as a Sommelier in similar restaurants or hotels
  • You possess a genuine interest and knowledge of food and beverage products sustainable with wine knowledge
  • You can gauge customers' preferences and deliver a unique drinking experience
  • You have a strong work ethic and exceptional customer service skills
  • You maintain immaculate personal presentation standards and excellent attention to detail
  • You hold a valid Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate
  • A Wine and Spirit Education Trust or Court of Master Sommeliers certificate is desirable
  • You have full working rights in Australia
  • You are flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
