The Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine microbiological procedures, recording results, maintaining scientific knowledge, and contributing to the development of new assays.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine microbiological procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for pathological diagnosis.
  • Recording of results in line with protocols.
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge.
  • Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required.
  • Participating in training staff.
  • Liaising with internal and/or external stakeholders regarding test results or referrals as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skills within Microbiology.
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence.
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence.
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment.
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent.
