About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Professional to join our team as a Communications Officer.

This is a 12-month contract position within a Federal Government Department, offering a competitive hourly rate of $55 + Super and the possibility of extension.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have over 3 years' experience in strategic communications, exceptional writing skills, and experience working in government.

You will be a team player with a service-focused mindset, able to adapt quickly to new systems and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration and Strategy Development: Work closely with your Assistant Director to support the development and implementation of communication and engagement strategies.
  • Communication Planning and Execution: Draft and execute communication plans and strategies while managing relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Project Coordination and Evaluation: Coordinate the implementation and evaluation of communication strategies to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Content Creation: Write and develop content for a broad range of communication channels, including web, social media, traditional media, newsletters, stakeholder toolkits, and information products.
  • Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Team Performance and Support: Support team performance, organize and manage activities, and balance multiple priorities with accountability for team outcomes.
  • Corporate Management: Contribute to section-level corporate management, planning, and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • More than 2 years' experience in a strategic communication role.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a service and user-centred focus.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to build productive working relationships.
  • Ability to work both independently in a small team and collaboratively across various project teams.
  • Quick to learn and adapt to new IT systems efficiently.
  • Demonstrated personal drive, integrity, and a results-focused approach.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-paced environment, managing and prioritizing competing issues and activities.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment with the department, applicants must be Australian citizens at the time of the job offer and have government experience.

Successful candidates will be required to complete a satisfactory Australian National Police Check (no older than six months), a medical declaration and pre-employment medical assessment (if required), and evidence of qualifications.
