PhD Student in Natural Language Processing

This project involves the development of novel approaches for information extraction from scientific literature. The successful candidate will contribute to the creation of natural language processing techniques that combine deep learning with biochemical information extraction.

Project Overview

The focus of this project will be on relation and event extraction, co-reference resolution, and semantic analysis of tables in scientific research literature. The precise focus will be determined based on the student's interests and expertise.

Research Team

The PhD student will join the Natural Language Processing group at a leading department of computing and information systems, under the supervision of Associate Professor Karin Verspoor and Dr Trevor Cohn. Collaboration opportunities also exist with Associate Professor Lawrence Cavedon from RMIT University.

Requirements
  • A strong undergraduate honours degree or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Understanding of machine learning and computational linguistics methods.
  • Interest in acquiring knowledge of the biochemical domain (optional).
  • Prior experience in research projects.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
