The University of Melbourne is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join their team in the Department of Computing and Information Systems.
This is an exciting opportunity for a PhD student to work on a 3-year project focused on information extraction from the published scientific research literature.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of novel approaches to biochemical information extraction using deep learning techniques.
The project involves collaboration with Elsevier BV, a leading scientific publisher, to develop solutions with substantial practical applications.
The ideal candidate will have a strong undergraduate honours degree or a Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a good understanding of methods in machine learning and computational linguistics.
The student will also be expected to acquire knowledge of the biochemical domain and participate in research projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement novel deep learning techniques for biochemical information extraction
- Collaborate with the Content and Innovation team at Elsevier to develop solutions with practical applications
- Contribute to the development of a research plan and execute it under the supervision of Associate Professor Karin Verspoor and Dr Trevor Cohn
- Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals
Requirements:
- Strong background in computer science or a related field
- Good understanding of machine learning and computational linguistics
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
