Role Summary:

The Core Research Facilities team is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven Professional Officer, Cultural Heritage to join their high-performing team. In this role, you will manage and supervise the technical operations of the Cultural Heritage node of Sydney Analytical and provide general expertise in portable vibrational spectroscopy and X-ray instruments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Cultural Heritage Node of Vibrational Spectroscopy within Sydney Analytical and ensure that research and research training requirements are met effectively
  • Manage and maintain the portable instruments and all accessories associated with the cultural heritage node, ensuring equipment is compliant with relevant University and legislative requirements
  • Provide expert knowledge in the application of high-end portable and benchtop (vibrational spectroscopy and XRF) techniques and analysis applicable to cultural heritage research
  • Evaluate and ensure maintenance of Workplace Health and Safety records as per the University's Workplace Health and Safety policy
  • Ensure reporting and documentation requirements are met for the portable instruments and experiments dealing with museum/cultural items
  • Facilitate effective communication and good working relationships with cultural heritage stakeholders and researchers using portable and benchtop instrumentation

Requirements:

  • Extensive expertise in the operation of advanced vibrational spectroscopic equipment, software, data processing, and analysis
  • Understanding of cultural sensitivities and requirements of appropriate human ethics, government, and institutional approvals for studies on museum and cultural items
  • Computer skills, particularly with respect to high-end chemometric analysis
  • Excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve required outcomes
  • Keen attention to detail and awareness of issues related to dealing with commercially sensitive or confidential information
  • Experience with working in the Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums sector or in working with heritage materials is required

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

Benefits:

Full-time, fixed-term role for 12 months
Base Salary from $103,185.00/yr - A$111,237.00/yr
