About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at the Public Transport Authority. As a key member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for the preparation of end of financial year accounts, including detailed notes and supporting documentation, all in line with Australian Accounting standards, legislation and PTA policies.

As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in lease accounting, undertaking a range of financial accounting and reporting activities. Your analytical skills will be essential in forecasting future lease liabilities for corporate budgeting and forecasting.

You will also be responsible for monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, payroll reconciliations, and the processing of month-end journals. Your organisational skills will enable you to work both independently and collaboratively, delivering quality outcomes on schedule.

About You

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Possession of a tertiary qualification in Finance or Commerce or equivalent with eligibility for membership to one of the professional bodies (ICAA, CPA Australia or IPA).
  • Considerable knowledge and practical application of Taxation legislation as it applies to Government agencies, in particular FBT and GST.
  • Proven financial management experience in an accrual-based environment, including experience in the use of corporate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting Australian Accounting Standards and Treasurer's Instruction and applying a range of financial management governance and legislative requirements.
  • High level of financial analysis, conceptual thinking and problem solving with attention to detail for complex financial management problems.
