Are you a recent graduate in town planning looking to launch your career? We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Town Planner to join our team in a large and diverse local government area.
Job Description:
- Support development assessment and community engagement in a diverse Sydney community, providing valuable experience and skills.
- Assist in preparing assessment reports and determinations on development applications and subdivision certificates, helping to ensure timely delivery of services.
- Conduct site inspections and prepare supporting documentation, developing your knowledge of the built environment.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholder feedback on development matters, honing your communication and problem-solving skills.
- Respond to enquiries at the customer service counter, via email, and by phone, providing exceptional customer service.
- Meet statutory and Council timeframes, contributing to the delivery of efficient development services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide planning and development information through Council's Duty Planner service, building relationships with stakeholders.
- Prepare assessment reports and determinations on development applications and subdivision certificates, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Undertake site inspections and prepare supporting documentation, staying up-to-date with industry developments.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholder feedback on development matters, fostering collaboration and effective communication.
- Respond to enquiries at the customer service counter, via email, and by phone, delivering exceptional customer experiences.
- Meet statutory and Council timeframes, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning (or nearing completion), demonstrating a solid foundation in the field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for success in this role.
- Good organisational and problem-solving abilities, enabling you to manage competing priorities and resolve complex issues.
- Understanding of relevant Acts, statutory planning processes, and customer service delivery, reflecting a commitment to quality and excellence.
- Able to work collaboratively and professionally in a fast-paced environment, embracing change and diversity.
- Hold a Class C Driver's Licence, facilitating travel between sites and meetings.
Desirable: Knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and prior experience in local government or development assessment, enhancing your skills and expertise.
