The Opportunity

We are seeking a qualified candidate as a Laboratory Manager to lead our Mulgrave Analytical Services Team. As the Laboratory Manager, you will support the day-to-day operations, including activities associated with Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHSE) and Quality. You will also assist the Business Unit Leader - Analytical Services and support the solving of complex chemistry issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management: Understand profit and loss statements, forecast financials, prepare capital expenditure budgets, and manage financial resources effectively.
  • Workforce Planning and People Management: Develop and implement workforce plans, set key performance indicators (KPIs), conduct performance reviews, and provide employee development opportunities.
  • Strategic Planning: Support the development of strategic plans and future directions for the team.
  • Sales and Marketing: Support the sales and marketing of products and services within the team.
  • Customer Liaison: Liaise with customers to understand and scope work requirements.
  • Report Preparation and Presentation: Oversee the delivery, preparation, and presentation of reports to clients as required.
  • Time Management: Manage your own time and workloads to support the wider division's objectives, while guiding and supporting the labs and business-as-usual.
  • Culture Development: Lead by example in developing and maintaining a collaborative culture within the division and overall business.
  • OHSE and Quality Systems: Support the maintenance of OHSE and Quality systems, including ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to complex chemistry problems and support the teams with technical advice.

About You

You will be:

  • An experienced leader with 10+ years of direct leadership experience in a laboratory (NATA) environment.
  • Committed to safe work practices.
  • Energetic and flexible in your approach.
  • An excellent communicator and a Chemist with instrumental experience.
  • Knowledgeable in OHSE systems and Quality systems.
  • Possess a Chemistry degree or relevant qualifications in science and/or related areas of expertise.
