About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior HR Policy Officer to join our People Policy team within the Australian Federal Police. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in driving employment relations legislation and policy change, shaping the strategic direction of the AFP, and providing valuable expertise and specialist advice to AFP leaders and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement HR policies and guidelines that support the AFP's employment framework and ensure consistent and fair decision-making.
  • Analyze and interpret Commonwealth legislation and AFP employment frameworks and principles, and provide expert advice to stakeholders.
  • Lead engagement with key internal and external stakeholders, and steer strategic initiatives to drive employment relations legislation and policy change.
  • Collaborate with peers to foster a harmonious and risk-aware work environment, and contribute to the development of projects, policies, and guidelines.
  • Represent the branch at internal and external forums, and provide mentorship and development opportunities to team members.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated prior experience in a HR role or HR Policy team, with a strong understanding of employment relations legislation and policy.
  • Ability to self-direct and proactively navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to convey messages effectively across multiple audiences.
  • Relevant work experience (2 years minimum) in a HR role or HR Policy team, with a strong understanding of HR theory, frameworks, principles, policies, and practice.
  • Australian citizenship, with a Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
