Project Biosecurity Officer

 

Job Description

This position plays a key role in the development and management of biosecurity detection systems. The officer will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to improve the effectiveness of border screening by providing detection systems and policy capability.

The officer will be responsible for project managing operational and x-ray installation activities in partnership with external border agencies, industry, and vendors. This includes engagement with technical experts and vendors on x-ray installations and biosecurity risk detection algorithm development. Additionally, the officer will evaluate regulatory impacts and monitor ongoing regulatory compliance by business-as-usual activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project management of operational and x-ray installation activities
  • Engagement with technical experts and vendors on x-ray installations and biosecurity risk detection algorithm development
  • Evaluation of regulatory impacts and monitoring of ongoing regulatory compliance
  • Representation of the department in various forums to engage stakeholders on technical aspects of installations, maintenance, research, and development activities

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with 3D or 2D x-ray technology, either operations or installation of x-ray units
  • An understanding of Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry systems and familiarity with the biosecurity regulatory environment
  • A demonstrated understanding of the APS Values and Code of Conduct
