Key Role Summary:
We are seeking motivated and experienced professionals to join our Biosecurity Operations Division as a Biosecurity Officer. As a key member of the Cargo Operations Pathway, you will play a critical role in delivering regulatory assessment and inspections of goods across the biosecurity continuum.
The successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. They will be responsible for inspecting and clearing various cargo commodities, assessing relevant import/export documentation, and managing goods that do not comply with import/export requirements.
In addition, the successful candidate will provide timely and accurate advice on complex biosecurity matters, identify trends in biosecurity risks, and promote compliance with departmental Work Health and Safety policies and guidelines.
Main Responsibilities:
- Inspect and clear various cargo commodities (e.g., fresh produce, machinery, used vehicles) to confirm compliance with Australia's biosecurity and imported food requirements
- Assess relevant import/export documentation to ensure compliance with relevant legislation/policy
- Manage goods that do not comply with import/export requirements and capture information to support evidence-based decisions
- Provide timely and accurate advice on complex biosecurity matters to employees, stakeholders/clients, and senior managers
- Resolve complex operational and technical matters
- Identify trends in biosecurity risks and escalate these to assist in targeting intelligence and risk-based activities
- Promote and comply with departmental Work Health and Safety policies and guidelines
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor and office-based work
- Occasional out-of-hours and weekend work
- Wearing an official uniform supplied by the department, including during field operations
- Wearing appropriate protective personal equipment and clothing to comply with departmental Work Health & Safety policies and procedures
