
Aviation Medical Specialist

Primary care physicians for pilots and crew members are in high demand. They work in extreme environments, requiring specialized care for unique stresses and conditions.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct medical examinations and provide care for air and missile crews
- Evaluate fitness for flying and special duties, as well as living and working environments to detect and control health hazards
- Participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues
- Develop and manage preventive medicine programs, including education of flight personnel in healthy lifestyles
- Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters
- Provide advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards
- Serve as a liaison between flying squadrons and medical services
- M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited program
- Completed an ACGME- or AOA-accredited program of postgraduate specialty training
- Permanent certification by the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) if a graduate of a foreign medical school
- Completion of a residency at a fully accredited residency program
- Proficiency in adult primary care medicine
- Completion of a primary course in aerospace medicine
- Current, active, permanent, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state or territory of the United States or in the District of Columbia
- Aeronautical rating of Flight Surgeon, Senior Flight Surgeon, or Chief Flight Surgeon
- Minimum 12 months of experience as a flight surgeon (Aerospace Medicine Specialist only)
- Board eligible in Aerospace Medicine (Aerospace Medicine Specialist only)
- Completion of Commissioned Officer training course
- U.S. citizenship between the ages of 18 and 47
- Willingness to relocate
