About the Role

The position requires a highly skilled medical professional to provide medical care for pilots and crew members in extreme environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough medical examinations and provide quality care for air and missile crews
  • Evaluate fitness for flying and special duties, as well as identify health hazards in living and working environments
  • Regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues
  • Develop and manage preventive medicine programs, including education of flight personnel in healthy lifestyles
  • Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters
  • Provide expert advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards
  • Serve as a liaison between flying squadrons and medical services
Qualifications
  • Hold a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree and completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)-accredited program of postgraduate specialty training
  • Proficient in adult primary care medicine
  • Completed a primary course in aerospace medicine
  • Hold a current, active, permanent and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state or territory of the United States or in the District of Columbia
  • Possess an aeronautical rating of Flight Surgeon, Senior Flight Surgeon or Chief Flight Surgeon
  • Minimum 12 months of experience as a flight surgeon (Aerospace Medicine Specialist only)
