Senior Legal Counsel Role Overview

This role is a strategic and commercial employment lawyer position that requires the delivery of high-quality legal advice to drive business success. We are seeking an experienced employment lawyer to join our team as Senior Legal Counsel.

Job Description:

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide expert legal advice on employment law matters, including litigation, daily employment issues, investigations, disciplinary actions, discrimination cases, and termination matters. The role also involves conducting litigation and advising on contentious disputes involving individuals, acting in or partnering with external law firms to conduct litigation in the Fair Work Commission, anti-discrimination tribunals, and Federal Courts.

The Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with our People and Culture team to deliver practical and commercial advice that helps us achieve our goals and values. This includes managing complex employment law matters in large organisations, ideally ASX listed, and providing governance and compliance support.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Legal qualification and current practicing certificate.
  • 8+ years PQE in employment law, with a proven track record in litigation at the Fair Work Commission.
  • Expertise in managing complex employment law matters in large organisations, ideally ASX listed.
  • Preferred background in private practice, ideally combined with in-house, secondment, and/or workplace relations experience.
  • Ability to manage a variety of stakeholders, handle change in a fast-paced environment, strong interpersonal and influencing skills, client and results-focused, motivated with a can-do attitude, and adept at multi-tasking and managing competing priorities.
