Job Description:

This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a remote outback region, contributing to the community's safety and well-being.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, ability to enforce local laws, and experience in animal management. They should also be familiar with local, state, and federal regulations.

About the Role:

As a Local Laws Officer with Peak Services, you will be responsible for enforcing community values and ensuring resident safety. This involves investigating reported breaches of local laws, issuing fines and infringement notices, and promoting compliance through education and direct communication with residents.

  • Investigate and respond to reported breaches of local laws, such as animal control, noise, and vegetation issues.
  • Issue fines and infringement notices for non-compliance and manage daily activities within the Local Laws and Animal Management Program.
  • Promote compliance through education and direct communication with residents.
  • Handle the impoundment, care, release, or euthanasia of animals, ensuring humane treatment.
  • Implement pest and weed control initiatives and assist with the regional biosecurity plan.
  • Conduct inspections and assist with operations at Burketown and Gregory aerodromes.
  • Support disaster management efforts, including cyclone preparedness and response activities.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and compliance documentation.

You will also contribute to fostering community development and sustainable practices, working closely with Burke Shire Council to achieve their goals.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A strong commitment to community engagement and enforcement of local laws.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws, especially in animal control, pest management, and community regulations.
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence and Category A Firearms Licence with experience in safe firearm use for animal management.
  • Current Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (ACDC) Licence and ASIC Card.
  • Current vaccines for Q Fever, Rabies, Hep A and B, and Tetanus.
