Principal Software Asset Specialist Job Description

The Principal Software Asset Specialist is responsible for leading the lifecycle management of ICT software assets. They must ensure compliance, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with organisational and government standards while providing strategic advice and technical expertise.

This role involves coordinating and managing Software Asset Management (SAM) activities to guarantee licence compliance, cost-effective utilisation, and alignment with government policies and legal obligations.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise and strategic advice to ensure optimal use and compliance of ICT software assets throughout their lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and manage SAM activities, ensuring licence compliance, cost-effective utilisation, and alignment with government policies and legal obligations.
  • Liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate compliance risks and provide timely recommendations.
  • Lead the Software Asset function and team, offering professional support, advice, and reporting to IT specialists, projects, management, and end users.
Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Asset Management Expertise:
  • Proven experience in lifecycle management of enterprise ICT software assets and software asset management principles.

  • Contract Management Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with ICT enterprise software vendor licence compliance requirements, trends, and lifecycles.
  • Engagement Skills:
  • Capability to gather business requirements and provide timely, strategic advice.
  • Leadership Abilities:
  • Experience leading technical and strategic team discussions and reviews.
  • Continuous Improvement Focus:
  • A track record of monitoring, reporting, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
