About the Enhanced Midwifery Navigator Role

We are seeking an experienced midwife to join our team as an Enhanced Midwifery Navigator at Werribee Mercy Hospital maternity department.

The Enhanced Midwifery Navigator is a specialised role within maternity services that provides compassionate support and practical assistance to individuals and families experiencing perinatal loss and/or socially complex care needs during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish this new service and strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate in policy and guideline development, coordinate multidisciplinary team meetings, and work in partnership with the education team to create resources for families.
  • Provide emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to families experiencing perinatal loss, including stillbirth, miscarriage, and infant death.
  • Empower families facing complex social conditions during pregnancy and postpartum by guiding them through the healthcare system and advocating for their needs and rights within the healthcare setting.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery or Bachelor of Midwifery, current registration with AHPRA, and a post graduate qualification or currently enrolled in a post graduate program in a relevant area of study.
  • Excellent clinical, time management, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities, a compassionate, sensitive, flexible, and positive approach to effective family-centred care and management.
  • The ability to nurture friendly, culturally safe, and respectful relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
