Clinical Coder/Health Information Specialist

The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking skilled Clinical Coders and Advanced Clinical Coders to join the Health Information Management Service (HIMS) team.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure accurate, timely, and detailed abstraction and classification of inpatient episodes of care onto the relevant Hospital database, following established State and National guidelines and coding standards.
- Provide support to medical and other clinical personnel to ensure the allocation of ICD-10-AM diagnoses and procedure codes are correct and complete, and can be substantiated by documentation within the medical record.
- Ensure ethical documentation queries are completed, when required, to support accurate and comprehensive morbidity and casemix profile for NALHN; provide advice and support to clinical staff to ensure clinical documentation improvement.
- Ensure the maintenance of medical record procedures in relation to the coding unit.
- Access all patient information for each episode via Sunrise or associated computer systems to ensure accurate coding of inpatient data.
- Demonstrate competence in the knowledge of the APC data collection process, definitions, and procedures to a competent level.
- Demonstrate competence in the knowledge of Activity-Based Funding and DRG principles.
- Satisfactory completion of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) coding course.
- Demonstrated competency in ICD-10-AM coding.
