About the Role

The Australian Government Department of Defence is seeking a skilled Contract Management Specialist to join our Regional Maintenance Centre East (RMC-E) team. This key role will provide contract management and commercial support for the delivery of maintenance of Royal Australian Navy vessels based at Garden Island Potts Point, Sydney.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting the defence of Australia and its interests. As a Contract Management Specialist, you will be responsible for providing assurance, audit and compliance of contractors and reporting on performance, opportunity, and risk to Australian national interests.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing contract management and commercial advice to manage complex, high-value, multi-year contracts;
  • Assisting and supporting the negotiations of significant commercial outcomes, which achieve value for money for the Commonwealth;
  • Developing and fostering productive working relationships with project leads and customers in support of developing commercial and contract management strategies.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with initiative, strong organisational, business management, commercial or legal skills, and the ability to manage and provide sound commercial advice relating to complex contracts.

You will need to have demonstrated public service, business management, commercial or legal experience or similar, as well as the ability to develop and interpret commercial documentation under limited direction. Proficiency and experience in developing and managing complex cost-modelling worksheets, supported by advanced excel skills, would be highly regarded.

In addition to your technical skills, you will need to be able to influence, negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, including through provision of written advice on complex matters. You must also be able to respond flexibly to changing situations, using sound judgement under pressure, to ensure the success of key deliverables.

This role requires close interaction with Navy ship maintenance staff and a large number of stakeholders, so you will need to be physical fit and in good health, able to climb the navy ships through gangways and stair cases, be on your feet for a reasonable time, effectively converse with stakeholders through verbal and written communication in person and online, and work from the site.

The estimated annual salary for this role is $120,000-$150,000, depending on your level of experience and qualifications.
