Job Summary

The role of Senior Legal Officer is critical in providing legal advice to investigators, senior officers, and members of the Senior Executive on complex aspects of investigations, policy, and other operational law enforcement initiatives.

About the Role

This leadership position requires an experienced Legal Officer to work in a dynamic environment with interesting operational work. The successful candidate will contribute to enhancing community safety by providing high-quality confidential advice on sensitive operational legal matters.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist legal advice and assistance to investigators and officers on complex criminal investigations and police powers.
  • Prepare and present oral and written briefings on complex aspects of criminal law, evidence, and administrative law.
  • Draft warrants, affidavits, and applications, and appear in court/tribunal hearings as required.
  • Liaise with internal and external agencies to provide expert advice on sensitive operational legal matters.
  • Develop and deliver specialist training programs and projects.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Admission as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland
  • Enrolment to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • A degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution
