Seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with experience in research, negotiation and legal advice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide Independent Legal Advice: The successful candidate will provide independent legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer, the President, the Council, and its committees, the Legal Practitioners Board, the Society's incorporated legal practice, and the Society's officers.
  • Manage Risk: Manage the Society's exposure to risk by reviewing, negotiating, and advising on contracts and commercial activities.
  • Write Statements of Reasons: Write statements of reasons for administrative decisions.
  • Develop Policies and Procedures: Write and update policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Process Applications: Process applications to access information.
  • Prepare Submissions: Prepare submissions to decision-makers, government, and other relevant entities.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in law or admissions as an Australian lawyer and eligibility to hold an unrestricted Queensland practising certificate.
  • Skills: Strong critical and strategic legal analysis and research skills with demonstrated ability to produce practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7+ years PAE, with (desirably) 4 years' experience in private practice corporate/commercial litigation.
  • Prior Experience: Prior in-house experience and administrative experience will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of government structures and processes will also be highly regarded.
