Researcher - Molecular Evolution of Subterranean Diving Beetles

Job Summary
The University of Adelaide is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Researcher to join our team in the School of Biological Sciences. As a Researcher, you will be responsible for conducting research on the molecular evolution of subterranean diving beetles, working closely with Prof. Steven Cooper, Emeritas Prof. Andy Austin, and Dr. Terry Bertozzi.
About the Project
The project will involve genomic and RNA sequencing analyses of subterranean and related surface beetle species. You will be responsible for characterising chemosensory and additional gene families that are showing adaptive or regressive patterns of evolution in the subterranean species when compared to surface species.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on the molecular evolution of subterranean diving beetles
- Work closely with project collaborators to achieve project goals
- Conduct genomic and RNA sequencing analyses of subterranean and related surface beetle species
- Characterise chemosensory and additional gene families
- Develop and implement research plans and strategies
- Collaborate with other researchers and staff to achieve project goals
Requirements
- PhD in the discipline of genetics or molecular biology
- Equivalent qualifications and extensive research experience in the area of molecular evolution
- Demonstrated wet lab experience and capability to carry out NGS library preparation for genomic and/or transcriptomic sequence analyses
- Sound knowledge and understanding of molecular biology and its application in the field of evolutionary biology
- Demonstrated ability to undertake independent research and successfully oversee postgraduate and honours students to completion
- Track record of quality publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate across disciplines
