Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on urban planning matters, including land use, approvals, environmental assessments, and master planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and statutory planning advice to clients, including government agencies, community organizations, and private developers.
  • Prepare and manage development applications for various projects, from small infrastructure initiatives to large-scale residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, and other professionals.
  • Contribute to the development of proposals, tenders, and submissions for projects, ensuring alignment with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other professionals on multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring adherence to specifications, deadlines, budgets, and achieving desirable outcomes.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant planning laws, policies, and regulations, and apply this knowledge to provide expert advice to clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Participate in business development activities, including identifying new business opportunities and contributing to the growth of the company.
  • Contribute to the development of the company's planning expertise and thought leadership, through the creation of publications, presentations, and other materials.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the growth and success of the company.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of relevant experience in urban and statutory planning, preferably in the Australian Capital Territory, ideally gained in a consulting or government environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Town Planning or a related discipline and membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) or eligibility for membership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, and other professionals.
  • Understanding of impacts and issues affecting land use and development, including environmental and social considerations.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the Crown Leasehold system and its application in the Australian Capital Territory.
  • The ability to collaborate and work well alongside colleagues, as well as independently, as required.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to manage and respond to project challenges.
  • Initiative and good decision-making in undertaking work tasks.
  • Awareness and tracking of project timelines and budgets.
