About the Role

As a key ambassador, the Official Visitor plays a vital role in fostering connections between Aboriginal children in custody and centre staff. This position requires empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by Aboriginal children while in care, as well as effective communication and negotiation skills to support their needs.

This is an targeted expression of interest where preference will be given to candidates who meet the established standards of the role and are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

  • Resolve complaints and enquiries made by young people in custody
  • Monitor the conditions and treatment of young people in custodial centres throughout New South Wales (NSW)

Appointment processes include reference checks. Some roles may also require:

  • National Criminal History Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
