Bitumen Tanker Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a skilled technician to maintain and repair bitumen tankers, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in line with compliance standards.

This is a hands-on role offering the opportunity to work with specialised equipment essential to road construction operations.

The Job Description
  • Conduct routine inspections, diagnose mechanical faults, and perform preventative maintenance on tank systems, including burners, pumps, valves, and hydraulic components.
  • Maintain the integrity of heating systems that keep bitumen at optimal temperature during transport and unloading.
  • Carry out welding and fabrication repairs, monitor and calibrate temperature and pressure controls.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental, and transport standards.
  • Work both in workshop settings and occasionally on-site to support operational readiness and minimise downtime.
About the Role
  • Mechanical and hydraulic system knowledge
  • Experience with burner systems and pipework
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Understanding of hazardous materials handling (especially hot bitumen)
  • Strong safety awareness and PPE compliance
Key Responsibilities
  • Routine maintenance of bitumen tanks and associated equipment (valves, burners, pumps, hoses)
  • Inspect and repair heating systems, such as diesel burners or LPG systems
  • Service hydraulic systems used for loading/unloading bitumen
  • Check insulation and structural integrity of tanks
  • Clean and flush tanks to remove buildup or contamination
  • Test and calibrate gauges and sensors
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
