Bitumen Tanker Maintenance Technician

The Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced technician to join our operations team. This is a hands-on role that offers the opportunity to work with specialized equipment essential to road construction operations.

  • Maintaining and repairing bitumen tankers, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently in line with compliance standards.

The Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting routine inspections, diagnosing mechanical faults, and performing preventative maintenance on tank systems, including burners, pumps, valves, and hydraulic components.
  • Maintaining the integrity of heating systems that keep bitumen at optimal temperature during transport and unloading.
  • Carrying out welding and fabrication repairs, monitoring and calibrating temperature and pressure controls, and ensuring all work is completed in line with relevant safety, environmental, and transport compliance standards.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong mechanical and hydraulic system knowledge.
  • Experience with burner systems and pipework.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Understanding of hazardous materials handling (especially hot bitumen).
  • Strong safety awareness and PPE compliance.

The Required Skills:

  • Routine maintenance of bitumen tanks and associated equipment (valves, burners, pumps, hoses).
  • Inspecting and repairing heating systems, such as diesel burners or LPG systems, that keep bitumen at the correct temperature.
  • Servicing hydraulic systems used for loading/unloading bitumen.
  • Checking insulation and structural integrity of tanks to prevent heat loss or leaks.
  • Cleaning and flushing tanks to remove bitumen buildup or contamination.
  • Testing and calibrating gauges and sensors (temperature, pressure, level indicators).
  • Performing welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, especially due to the flammable and hazardous nature of bitumen.
