As a Meteorological Specialist, you will play a critical role in enhancing Australia's national security agenda through the provision of timely and valuable meteorological information to aviation units.

You will work under forecast policy, preparing and issuing forecasts and warnings specific to requirements. This will involve maintaining a meteorological watch and amendment service and taking meteorological observations with confidence and independence.

Your excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills will be essential for success in this role. You will also need to be highly resilient and able to work independently as part of a small team.

This position is shift-based and generally contains weekday work during flying hours. However, occasional weekend work may be required, and travel to other Defence Weather Services Office sites may occur for leave relief or to support exercises.

To succeed in this role, you must attain and maintain at least a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Security Clearance, an Aerodrome Meteorological Forecaster (AMF) competency, and the Aerodrome Meteorological Observer (AMO) certification. These can be obtained once successful.
