Job Description:

The Senior Construction Health and Safety Officer will oversee health and safety compliance for U.S. Department of Defense construction projects at RAAF Base Darwin.

The successful candidate will ensure strict adherence to EM 385-1-1 and Australian WHS regulations for high-risk construction works involving airfield pavement, fuel systems, steel erection, and facility infrastructure construction.

This role involves implementing and managing project safety plans and procedures to ensure safety is incorporated into the design documents, and the construction activities are performed with a proactive approach focused on the health & safety of the public and the project staff while meeting or exceeding all contract requirements.

The Senior Construction Health and Safety Officer will have day-to-day operational responsibility to the Project Manager and/or Project Superintendent, and functional responsibility to the Director of HSE.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience preparing & enforcing safety programs on large construction projects.
  • A 2-yr or 4-yr Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Current OSHA 30-hour & EM 385-1-1.
  • Strong Knowledge of Australian WHS Act 2011 and associated regulations.
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in WHIS (for Australian candidates).
  • U.S. Citizen or Australian resident with eligibility for base access clearance.
